JOB SUMMARY: The Kids’ Company Special Needs Paraprofessional’s primary function is to assist students with disabilities who need support to access activities and tasks while in Kids’ Company programming. This position helps facilitate an age-appropriate, stimulating, and safe environment for the students and may be done by providing one-one care or reduced ratio care.

 

WORK REQUIREMENTS AND CHARACTERISTICS:

 

Education/Certification/Licensure:

• High school diploma or equivalent

• Completion of a minimum of 1040 child contact hours using a combination of district training programs, experience, and coursework of an equivalent nature and level to perform the requirements of the work.

• CPI, CPR and First Aid Certified or willing to become certified

• Valid Minnesota Driver's License Experience: • Previous experience working with children, specifically with disabilities, preferred.

 

Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Knowledge and ability to apply basic computer, math and language skills

• Ability to work well with students and staff

• Ability to work with children of various ability levels

• Knowledge of program expectations

• Knowledge and application of Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training if required by the position

• Position requires exercising confidentiality in handling district information

 

Kids' Company offers full day summer programming for ages 33 months through Grade 6.

As a Kids’ Company Special Needs Assistant your primary function is to assist students with disabilities who need support to access activities and tasks while in Kids’ Company programming.

 

This position helps facilitate an age-appropriate, stimulating, and safe environment for the students and may be done by providing one-one care or reduced ratio care. You will be responsible for the safety of the kids, providing a welcoming environment and using professionalism when engaging with children, staff, parents and other members of the team.

 

This position reports directly to the Site Coordinator and will also take direction from the Site Leader.  Special Needs Paraprofessional should be professional, be a team player, have great communication skills, and a positive attitude.
