Description | JOB SUMMARY: Serves as the chief financial officer for the District managing its budgetary and financial operations; provides direct supervision to Nutrition Services and Information Systems Coordinator.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
25% Administer, monitor and analyze district budget
- Direct the preparation of the district’s budget including establishing budget assumptions and monitoring changes on an ongoing basis.
- Prepare multi-year forecasts of the overall financial condition of the school district and assist the Superintendent in development of short and long term financial plans.
- Prepare enrollment and staffing projections.
- Prepare capital and long-term facilities maintenance plan with the Director of Operations.
25% Oversee financial activities and programs of the district
- Direct financial functions including accounting payable, payroll, accounts receivable, grants, fixed assets, and other activities.
- Administer risk and cash management programs.
- Assure compliance with school board policies, state and federal laws, and general accounting procedures and principles.
- Oversee the annual external financial audit.
- Oversee the finances for the FAC Joint Powers agreement with the City of New Prague. Prepare monthly financial reports and attend meetings as needed.
- Oversee the financial aspects of the district’s self-insured dental and medical plans.
- Work with Human Resources regarding employee benefit plans, unemployment and PFL.
10% Negotiations
- Conduct negotiation planning with Human Resources including preparing costing model and calculation of various settlement scenarios.
- Work with Human Resources and Superintendent on negotiation strategy.
- Attend negotiation meetings.
20% Develop special analysis and coordinate projects supporting administrative and school board decision making
- Provide support to the Superintendent for a variety of projects of initiates including financial analysis.
- Track benchmarks with comparable and local districts.
- Contribute financial data for referendum elections and work to education the public regarding the financial matters of the district.
5% Supervise Nutrition Services and Information Systems Coordinator
- Direct and be a resource for the Director of Nutrition Services efforts to provide exceptional nutrition services to the district
- Direct the Information Systems Coordinator to ensure key district systems are utilized to their fullest potential and district processes are automated to the extent practical
10% Serve as a member of the Superintendent’s Cabinet
- Support the general direction of the Superintendent and Cabinet.
- Assist in the implementation of district-wide initiatives.
- Participate in councils, committees, and task forces representing the school.
- Participate in forming the District’s strategic plan including developing strategy for finance and human resources.
5% Supervise department staff
- Recruit, select, assign, supervise, schedule, and evaluate department staff.
- Direct training programs for department staff.
Perform other duties as assigned or requested including attending professional development/meetings,
in-services and workshops.
WORK REQUIREMENTS AND CHARACTERISTICS:
Education/Certification/Licensure:
- College degree in finance or related field
- Licensure, certification or registration as a school business official preferred
Experience:
- Financial management experience
- 5 years’ experience as a business official in a Minnesota school district
- People management experience
- Valid Minnesota driver’s license

Supervision of Other Employees:
- Position includes direct, full supervision of all Business Office staff and Nutrition Services Director

- Position involves extended periods of sitting while entering computer data unless a sit/stand station is available
